Atlanta Falcons Helmet

The Atlanta Falcons helmet has a long history. In the pre 1970 seasons, the Falcons had a gold stripe on the helmet. This was apparently done to appease the Georgia Tech fans in the sate (the original Atlanta Falcons were more closely resembling the University of Georgia Bulldogs). From 1970-1989 the helmet was virtually the same with the exception of the facemask changing to black in 1984.

During the Jerry Glanville era, the team colors were changed to black. This was also coincident to teams cashing in on this color change. In 2003, the Falcon was updated with red highlights.
