Bucco Bruce: Tampa Bay Bucs Helmet History

"Bucco Bruce", the Tampa Bay Bucs original NFL helmet logo was created by Lamar Sparkman. Mr. Sparkman was a cartoonist and artist for the Tampa Tribune. Bucco Bruce is one of the few NFL helmet logos to be given a name.

"Some things you just want to forget"--Warren Sapp
"Something we didn't need"--John Lynch

Although Bucco Bruce was the one of the more flamboyant logos in the NFL, the orange clad version of the Bucs had some fans. Chris Berman seems to be one of them.

Bucco Bruce was officially retired on April 7, 1997. On April 9, the current Tampa Bay Bucs helmet was unveiled. Team owner Malcolm Glazer announced that "We think we have the perfect uniform, for a perfect team, in a perfect city."
